Recruiting a GP

Do you have a vacancy for a GP in the ACT or surrounding area?

Vacancy Form

If you wish to advertise your GP position on the ACT Medicare Local website, please complete the online Job Vacancy form or fax our hard copy version back to ACT Medicare Local on 02 6287 8055.  This service is provided free of charge to GP Practices in Canberra and Queanbeyan.  Generic advertising, funded by ACT Government Health Directorate, is regularly placed nationally and internationally, both online and in print, which directs potential GPs back to the ACT Medicare Local website where they can view your ad vacancy.

GPs and Locums Available

Please check the GPs and Locums Available page on this website to see GPs currently available.

Area of Need

All Practices located in the ACT are eligible to be declared Area of Need by the ACT Government. If you think you may wish to recruit an International Medical Graduate for your Practice, please contact Kirsty at the ACT Medicare Local on 02 6287 8099 to organise your Area of Need approval. Approvals are position specific (not person specific) and are valid for twelve (12) months from date of issue.

District of Workforce Shortage

Those practices located in an outer metro area (Tuggeranong, Weston Creek, Gungahlin or Belconnen) are eligible to be declared in a District of Workforce Shortage by the Department of Health and Ageing. Practices located in an inner metro area can apply to the Department of Health and Ageing for a special District of Workforce Shortage exemption. Please see DoctorConnect for more information or contact Kirsty at the ACT Medicare Local on 02 6287 8099.
